Twinfinder Support

Help, troubleshooting, and review notes for Twinfinder 2.2.

Getting Started

Click Choose Folder in the toolbar, select a folder, then click Scan. Results appear in groups by match type, including identical files, visual matches, audio matches, similar names, and folder overlap.

Cleanup Review Plan

Select one or more duplicates, then click Review Plan. Twinfinder shows what will be kept, what is selected for Trash, anything blocked, estimated recoverable space, and the reason for each risk level.

Smart Selection

Use Auto-select to mark copies using a named rule such as newest, oldest, largest, or shortest path. Smart selection never removes a kept file or the last file in a group.

Scan Options

Open Scan Options to choose file types, minimum size, hidden-file scanning, image sensitivity, audio matching, byte verification, and excluded folders.

Exports

Use Export to save a CSV report, share a summary, or export the cleanup log. The Cleanup Review Plan can also be copied as Markdown.

Permissions

Twinfinder scans only folders selected by the user. It does not ask for broad disk access during normal operation.

Common Questions

Does Twinfinder require an account?
No. Twinfinder runs locally on the Mac.

Can Twinfinder delete files permanently?
The app moves selected files to the system Trash after the review plan is confirmed. It does not permanently erase files directly.

Can I undo a cleanup?
Use Undo after cleanup to restore the last moved files where macOS permits. Files can also be reviewed in the system Trash.

What does review risk mean?
Exact byte matches with verification are treated as lower risk. Visual, audio, and similar-name matches are marked for review because they may be related but not identical.

How do I remove local preferences?
Quit Twinfinder, then run defaults delete com.realbobcorbin.Twinfinder in Terminal.
