Tap the + button on the Scripts tab, give your project a title, paste or type your script, choose a split mode (sentence, paragraph, or line break), and tap Create. Tap any line to open the recording screen.

Every take shows a traffic-light badge after recording. Green means your level is in the –22 to –10 dBFS sweet spot for voice work (ACX standard). Cyan means you were too quiet; red means you ran hot. Session Stats shows the mean level across all your winner takes with advice on adjusting your mic or gain.
While on the recording screen, tap the flag icon on any line to mark it for a redo — even if it already has a winner take. A "Second Pass" section appears at the top of the Record tab, listing all flagged lines across every project so you can batch-retake without hunting through the script. Tap the flag again to clear it.
Set a target spot length (15 s, 30 s, 60 s, 90 s, or a custom value) when creating a project, or add one later via Session Notes. Session Stats shows your stitched-estimate vs. target with a color-coded status and a words-to-cut / words-to-add estimate to help you hit the mark.
Open a project and tap the Teleprompter tile. The script line scrolls word-by-word at your project WPM. Swipe up to speed up, swipe down to slow down, and tap anywhere to pause or resume.
Tap the Notes tile in a project to add a director brief, tone guide, or client context. The note appears as a card above the script lines so it's always visible before you record. You can also set or change the target duration here.
Tap the Stats tile in a project to see your keeper rate, take histogram, pacing score, mean recording level, and target-duration comparison. From Stats you can also export a CSV cue sheet listing every line with its winning take details.
Microphone access is requested only when you tap the record button for the first time. If you denied access, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and enable Take a Stack.
Email the App Store product page with your device model, iOS version, and a short description of what happened.
Common Questions
Does the app require an account?
No. Take a Stack works entirely on-device with no sign-in required.
Where are my recordings stored?
Audio files live in the app's Documents folder at On My iPhone → TakeStack → voice. Exports go to On My iPhone → TakeStack → exports.
How do I delete a take?
On the recording screen, tap the trash icon next to the take row. You'll be asked to confirm unless you've turned off "Confirm before deleting takes" in Settings.
Can I change the number of allowed takes per line?
Yes. Go to Settings and adjust "Max takes per line (new projects)". This affects newly created projects.
What does the level badge mean?
After each recording, TakeStack measures the RMS dBFS level of the file. Green (–22 to –10 dBFS) means the level is in the recommended range for voice work. Cyan means the recording was too quiet; red means it ran hot. Level badges are not retroactive — only takes recorded on v1.2 or later will show them.
How do I use the Second Pass queue?
On the recording screen, tap the flag icon on a line to mark it. The Record tab will show a "Second Pass" section at the top. Tap any row there to jump directly to that line's recording screen. Tap the flag again on any flagged line to clear the redo marker.
My target duration says I'm over — how do I fix it?
Session Stats shows an estimated words-to-cut figure based on your project WPM. Shorten the longest lines in your script and retake them, or re-record faster-paced takes. Adjusting silence gaps (the duration between lines) in the Editor tab can also shave a few seconds.
How do I export the final track?
From a project, tap the Export tile or the Export tab. Choose a quality preset and tap "Export & Share" to render the stitched .m4a and open the iOS share sheet.
How do I remove all app data?
Go to Settings → Reset everything. This permanently deletes all scripts, takes, and exports. You can also delete the app from your device.
