Phrasepocket Support

Tap the flag icon in the top-right corner of the Phrases tab (or go to Settings → Language). This opens the language picker where you can choose any of the 12 supported languages. Your choice is saved automatically.

The active language applies everywhere in the app — phrase lists, search, favorites, quiz mode, and cheat sheet export all switch to the new language immediately.

Phrasepocket uses the device's built-in text-to-speech (AVSpeechSynthesizer). If no voice is installed for the selected language, the utterance will be silent rather than crashing. To fix this, go to Settings app → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, find your language, and download a voice. Once installed, Phrasepocket will use it automatically.

On simulators, most language voices are not installed by default. On a real device the experience is much better.

Tap the Quiz tab (the card-stack icon, sixth tab). Choose a scope — Favorites for your starred phrases, or any of the 12 categories for systematic practice. Tap Start Quiz.

Each card shows the English phrase. Think of the translation, then tap Reveal to see it along with the phonetic guide. Tap Got it if you recalled it correctly, or Missed if you didn't. When the deck is finished you see your score. Tap Retry missed phrases to loop on only the ones you got wrong — repeat until they stick.

For the Favorites scope to have anything to quiz, you need to star some phrases first. Open any category, tap a phrase, then tap the star button.

Open any category phrase list (e.g. Greetings) or the Favorites tab. If there are phrases in that list, a share icon (↑) appears in the top-right corner of the navigation bar. Tap it to open the iOS share sheet with a plain-text phrase table — three tab-separated columns: English, translation, and phonetic guide.

From the share sheet you can save to Notes, send via Mail, copy to clipboard, save to Files, AirDrop to a Mac for printing, or share to any other app. The language used in the export matches your currently active language.

Open any category, tap a phrase to open its detail view, then tap the star button on the right side of the action row. The phrase is added to your Favorites tab, and a star indicator appears in the phrase list. Tap the star again to remove it.

When you tap Speak on a favorited phrase, it rises to the top of the Favorites list so your most-used phrases are always first.

Yes. The Search tab searches English, the translation in the active language, and the phonetic guide simultaneously. You can type "bathroom", "baño", or "BAN-yo" and find the same phrase. Search is case-insensitive and diacritic-insensitive.

Travel Coach (the third tab) helps you build a compact phrase pack for a specific travel scenario — Arrival, Dining, Transit, or Help. Set how many minutes you have to practice and your self-confidence level; the app assembles a ranked phrase sprint and a readiness score. A field checklist summarises what to prepare. You can share the whole pack as text using the share button.

Travel Coach complements Quiz Mode: use Coach to identify which phrases matter most, then quiz yourself on them in the Quiz tab.

No. Everything works completely offline. All 250 phrases, 12 languages, pronunciation guides, and features are bundled with the app. No account is created and no data ever leaves your device.

Go to the Settings tab, then drag the Speaking rate slider. Tap Test voice to hear a sample phrase at the new speed. The setting is saved automatically.

Go to Settings → Data → Clear favorites. You will be asked to confirm. This removes all starred phrases but does not affect the phrasebook content.

Please email us with the phrase, the language, what you believe is wrong, and if possible the correct form with a source. We take accuracy seriously and will fix confirmed errors in the next update. Pronunciation guides are English-reader approximations intended to help you be understood, not formal IPA — but if a guide is misleading we want to know.
