Help for Pagecrisp 1.2 — the private on-device PDF scanner with full-text search, tags, sort, page editing, plain-text export, document merge, and image mode filters.
After scanning, the naming sheet shows an IMAGE MODE row with three choices: Color (original), Grayscale (desaturated), and Black & White (high-contrast). Tap a chip to apply it before saving. Black & White is recommended for receipts and printed forms. You can set a default in Settings → Scanning → Default image mode.
When your library has two or more documents, a merge icon (two overlapping pages) appears in the toolbar on the home screen. Tap it to open the Merge sheet. Check each document you want to include — a preview strip at the bottom shows the merge order. Drag rows in the strip to reorder. Tap Next, enter a title, and tap Merge. A new combined document appears at the top of your library. The originals are not changed.
Open any document, tap the … menu, and choose “Tags.” Type a tag name (Receipts, Medical, Lease — any label you like) and tap Add. Tags you’ve used on other documents appear as suggestions for quick reuse. Tap Done to save. You can add as many tags as you like.
A row of tag chips appears above the document grid whenever any documents have tags. Tap a chip to show only documents with that tag. Tap the “All” chip (or tap the active chip again) to return to the full list.
Tap the sort icon (two arrows) in the top-right of the home screen. Choose Newest first, Oldest first, Title A–Z, Title Z–A, or Most pages. The sort order you choose is saved and applies every time you open the app.
Tap the magnifying glass icon in the top-right of the home screen. Pagecrisp searches every document title and every line of recognized OCR text across all your scans. Tap a result to open that document.
Open any document, tap the … menu, and choose “Edit pages.” Drag the handle to reorder pages, or swipe left to delete a page. Tap Save and Pagecrisp rebuilds the PDF automatically.
On any document that has OCR text, tap the … menu and choose “Export text (.txt).” The system share sheet opens with a plain-text file containing the recognized text from every page, ready to send to Mail, Files, or any other app.
On any document, tap the share icon at the bottom of the screen to share the PDF via the system share sheet. You can also tap “Preview PDF” in the … menu to open the PDF in a full-screen PDFKit viewer first.
Email the App Store product page with your device model, iOS version, and a short description of what happened.
Common Questions
The Scan button shows an error on the simulator.
Apple’s document camera (VNDocumentCameraViewController) is not available in the iOS Simulator. Test scanning on a real iPhone or iPad.
I don’t see the merge icon in the toolbar.
The merge icon only appears when your library contains two or more documents. Scan at least two documents, then the icon will appear at the top of the home screen.
Does merging delete the original documents?
No. Merge creates a new combined document. The source documents remain in your library unchanged. You can delete them manually afterward if you no longer need them.
What image mode should I use for receipts?
Black & White. It applies a high-contrast filter that makes printed text very crisp and removes background colour noise. For handwritten notes or colour-coded documents, use Color or Grayscale instead.
Can I change the image mode after saving?
Not currently — the filter is applied to the page images at save time. To change it, re-scan the document with the desired mode selected in the naming sheet.
I don’t see the tag filter strip.
The strip only appears when at least one document in your library has a tag. Open any document, tap the … menu, choose Tags, and add one. The strip will appear on the home screen immediately.
How do I remove a tag from a document?
Open the document, tap the … menu, choose Tags. Tap the X on any tag chip to remove it, then tap Done.
Search returns no results even though I have OCR text.
Search only reads the recognized text that was saved when you scanned the document. If OCR was turned off at scan time, no text is stored. Re-scan with OCR enabled in Settings to make that document searchable.
Can I reorder pages in a document I already saved?
Yes. Open the document, tap the … menu, and choose “Edit pages.” This rebuilds the PDF with the new page order.
Where are my scans stored?
All scans live in your app’s private Application Support folder on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Deleting Pagecrisp removes everything.
Does the app require an account or subscription?
No. Pagecrisp is a one-time $0.99 purchase. No account, no subscription, no in-app purchases.
What changed in version 1.2?
Document merge (combine two or more documents into one PDF with all OCR preserved), image mode filters (Color / Grayscale / Black & White per scan), tags (add labels and filter the grid), and a sort control (newest, oldest, title, or page count).
What changed in version 1.1?
