Pagecrisp: Private PDF Scanner

Scan, OCR, and export watermark-free PDFs that stay on your device. No account, no cloud, no subscription — with full-text search, page editing, tags, sort, document merge, and image mode filters.

What Pagecrisp does

Tap Scan, frame a document, and Pagecrisp builds a searchable PDF using Apple’s Vision OCR — entirely on this device. The exported file has no watermark, no branding, and no hidden upload. It is just your document.

Uses VisionKit, Vision, PDFKit, and CoreImage — the same frameworks Apple ships in Notes and Photos.

Version 1.2 — What’s new

  • Document merge — combine two or more scanned documents into a single new PDF with one tap; drag to set the order before merging; source documents are kept intact
  • Image mode filters — choose Color, Grayscale, or Black & White per scan (or set a library default in Settings); Black & White sharpens printed text and receipts considerably
  • Tags — tag any document from the … menu; tap a tag chip on the home screen to filter the grid to that tag only
  • Sort control — order your library by newest first, oldest first, title A–Z, title Z–A, or most pages; choice persists across launches

Image mode filters

Color keeps the original camera output unchanged — best for photos, handwriting, and colour-coded documents.

Grayscale removes colour information while preserving luminosity. Reduces file size slightly and gives a clean, professional look to typed documents.

Black & White applies a high-contrast filter via CoreImage that pushes mid-grey pixels to pure black or white. This is the mode to reach for when scanning printed receipts, forms, and text-heavy documents: it makes OCR-recognized text crisper and the final PDF easier to read on screen.

The mode you choose in the naming sheet applies only to that scan. Set a library default in Settings → Scanning → Default image mode.

Document merge

The merge button (two overlapping pages icon) appears in the toolbar whenever your library has two or more documents. Tap it to open the merge sheet. Check the documents you want to combine, then drag them into the order you need. Give the merged document a title and tap Merge. Pagecrisp builds a brand-new PDF and adds it to the top of your library — the source documents are never touched.

All OCR text layers from the original documents are carried into the merged PDF, so the result is fully searchable just like any other Pagecrisp document.

The anti-CamScanner

Every other scan-to-PDF app stamps a logo on your export, pushes a subscription, or quietly uploads your scans. Pagecrisp is a one-time $0.99 purchase. The PDF has no watermark, ever. Nothing leaves the phone.

Private by design

Every page image and PDF lives in your app’s private Application Support folder. Tags and sort preferences are stored in UserDefaults on this device. OCR runs locally using Apple Vision. Image mode filters are processed locally using CoreImage. The PrivacyInfo manifest declares only the standard UserDefaults and FileManager reason codes Apple requires. Delete the app and every scan disappears with it.
