iPhone and iPad App · Version 1.2

HomeSpare

Remember the exact household spares before you are standing in the aisle. Track how many filters, bulbs, and batteries you have on hand, get a low-stock alert before you run out, look up the right size or part from a built-in offline reference, and walk into the hardware store with a ready-made shopping list — all offline, no account required.

What HomeSpare does

  • Track on-hand stock of every household spare with a quick +/- counter on each row
  • Set a reorder level per item — HomeSpare flags it the moment you drop to "low" or "out"
  • Built-in offline reference for HVAC filter sizes, light-bulb bases, and battery equivalents
  • One tap turns any reference entry into a fully pre-filled spare
  • Automatic replacement reminders from a last-replaced date plus a service interval
  • "Mark replaced today" rolls the schedule forward and uses one unit from stock
  • Store run list export — only the items that actually need buying, ready to share
  • Full plain-text and CSV export of your whole library, including stock and schedule
  • Search, filter (All / Active / Low / Due / Done), and sort, including sort by stock

New in 1.2

  • Reference Library New — a bundled, offline reference covering common HVAC and water filter sizes (with nominal-vs-actual dimensions), MERV guidance, light-bulb bases and shapes, and household battery sizes and equivalents
  • Real stock tracking New — on-hand quantity and a per-item reorder level, with low-stock and out-of-stock badges throughout the app and a +/- counter on every row
  • Replacement scheduling New — set a typical interval (monthly, 6-month, yearly, and more), record when you last replaced an item, and HomeSpare computes the next-due date automatically
  • Store run list New — a focused, shareable checklist of only the spares that are low, out, or overdue
  • CSV now includes quantity, reorder level, low-stock flag, and interval columns

The size & part reference

The whole point of HomeSpare is knowing the exact spare before you leave the house. The new Reference tab is a browsable, searchable, fully offline guide so you can identify and record the right part once and never re-measure.

HVAC & water filters: the most common return-grille sizes (16x25x1, 20x20x1, 20x25x1, and more) with their published actual dimensions — because a "16x25x1" filter really measures about 15.5 x 24.5 x 0.75 inches — plus deep 4" and 5" media filters, fridge water filters, and range-hood filters, each with a typical replacement interval.

MERV guide: what MERV 1–4, 5–8, 9–12, and 13–16 actually capture, so you can match filtration to your home without over-restricting airflow.

Light bulbs: base and shape codes (A19/E26, BR30, PAR38, candelabra E12, intermediate E17, GU10, GU5.3/MR16, and appliance bulbs) so you grab the right fit the first time.

Batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, and the coin/button-cell family (CR2032, CR2025, CR2016, LR44, A23) with their common cross-reference names (DL, ECR, AG13, 357, MN21).

Tap any entry to expand the detail, then "Add as a spare" to drop a pre-filled record straight into your library.

Stock tracking & low-stock alerts

Each spare now carries a real on-hand count and a reorder level. Use one with the minus button when you install it; HomeSpare flags the item as low or out and surfaces it on the dashboard, in the Low filter, and at the top of your store run list.

The dashboard shows your low-stock count, total units on hand, items due this week, and anything overdue — so you can see at a glance whether you are covered before the next store trip.

All counts and settings stay on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Automatic replacement reminders

For anything you replace on a schedule — furnace filters, fridge filters, smoke-alarm batteries — set how often it recurs and when you last replaced it. HomeSpare computes the next-due date for you and counts down ("due in 12 days", "overdue 3d") right in the library.

When the day comes, swipe or tap "Mark replaced today." HomeSpare records the date, rolls the schedule forward by your interval, and uses one unit from stock so your counts stay accurate. Typical intervals are drawn from public guidance (for example, fridge water filters about every 6 months and smoke-alarm 9V batteries about once a year).

Store run list & exports

The Export tab leads with a Store Run List: a clean checklist of only the spares that are low, out of stock, or overdue, each with its size/part and current count. Share it to Notes, Messages, or a printout and take it shopping.

You can also share a full plain-text summary or a CSV of your entire library. The CSV now includes quantity, reorder level, a low-stock flag, and the replacement interval, so it opens cleanly in Numbers, Excel, or Google Sheets.

Reference data & accuracy

The bundled reference is compiled from public, non-proprietary engineering references: US EPA guidance on MERV ratings, widely published HVAC filter nominal-vs-actual dimensions, the standard light-bulb base chart, and common battery size/equivalent charts.

It is a convenience reference, not a guarantee of fit. The same nominal size and the same fixture can vary by manufacturer, so HomeSpare always reminds you to confirm the size or part printed on your own equipment before buying. The data is bundled inside the app and is never fetched over the network.

Privacy and offline design

  • No account or sign-in required
  • No network calls — the app never contacts a server
  • No ads or third-party tracking SDKs
  • No in-app purchases or subscriptions
  • All records and settings stored in local app storage on your device
  • Reference data is bundled in the app, not downloaded
  • Export your library, store run list, or CSV any time via the iOS share sheet
