Open Hangcraft and tap the + button on the Walls tab to create a wall. Add frames with their size and hanger type, then tap the scope icon to drop AR targets on the wall. For a one-off job, use Quick Hang instead.
Hangcraft: Picture Hanging Support
Help and contact information for Hangcraft 1.3.
On any wall with frames, scroll down the wall detail screen to see the Layout Diagram card — a scaled visual showing every frame rectangle at its computed position with red nail cross-marks and a gold eye-line. Tap the chevron to collapse it if you prefer the number view.
Open Tools → Stud Spacing. Use a physical stud finder to locate one stud, measure its distance from the left wall edge, and enter that value. Pick 12, 16, or 24 in on-centre spacing. Hangcraft shows every stud position. Enable "Check a nail position" to find out if your nail lands on solid wood or between studs.
When adding or editing a frame, tap "Pick a standard size" to choose from 27 common photo, poster, canvas, and square sizes. The width and height fill in automatically in your chosen units.
Open Tools → Anchor Advisor. Enter the frame dimensions, material, glass, and wall type. The advisor estimates the frame weight and recommends the correct anchor hardware. Always verify the anchor's rated capacity on the package.
Open Tools → Above Furniture. Choose the furniture type (sofa, bed, console, etc.), enter the frame height and hanger drop, and get the exact nail height from the floor following the 6–8 inch interior-design clearance rule.
On any saved wall with frames, tap the share icon (top-right of the wall detail screen). Hangcraft generates a text plan with every nail's position in both cm and inches, which you can send via Messages, Mail, or copy to Notes.
Email the App Store product page with your device model, iOS version, and a short description of what happened.
Common Questions
The AR target won't appear — what do I do?
ARKit needs a few seconds to detect a vertical plane. Move the phone slowly across the wall in good light. The status label at the bottom tells you when a wall is found.
Does Hangcraft work on older iPhones?
The AR feature requires iPhone 11 or newer (A12 Bionic chip and later). All calculators — Eye-Line, Anchor Advisor, Furniture mode, Stud Spacing — work on any iPhone running iOS 17.
Does the app require an internet connection?
No. Hangcraft is fully offline. No account, no cloud sync, no network requests.
Where is my data stored?
Walls, frames, and pindrops are stored on your device using SwiftData. They are included in your iCloud or iTunes backup automatically if you have backups enabled.
Does the Stud Spacing tool replace a stud finder?
No. You still need a physical stud finder to locate the first stud. Hangcraft then computes all subsequent stud positions from that one known measurement and the on-centre spacing. Always confirm with your stud finder before drilling heavy frames.
What changed in 1.3?
Version 1.3 adds the Wall Diagram (a scaled visual layout on the wall detail screen) and the Stud Spacing Reference tool (maps all studs from one known position and checks any nail X against them).
What changed in 1.1 and 1.2?
Version 1.1 added the Anchor Advisor, Furniture Clearance, 27 standard frame size presets, a Share Plan button, and an adjustable frame-gap stepper. Version 1.2 brought additional stability improvements.
