When the noise upstairs happens again and again, one loud reading proves nothing — what carries weight is a dated, organized record. Quietmark is a noise complaint log for renters, homeowners, and HOA residents dealing with recurring apartment, neighborhood, construction, or late-night disturbances.
Start a capture and the app opens the microphone for a few seconds — 3, 5, 10, or 30, your choice — samples the audio meters, and estimates the peak and average loudness. It is honest about what that number is: Apple does not expose a calibrated sound meter to apps, so the reading is approximate and meant for personal documentation and relative comparison, not professional measurement. Around each reading you add a headline and notes, optional fields for source, room, duration, impact, and witnesses, and a photo if you have one. Entries group by day, so patterns become visible over time.
When you are ready to make your case, export a clean packet: a Letter-size PDF, a CSV for spreadsheets, or a plain-text summary letter drawn from the entries you select. A readiness checklist scores completeness and flags what is missing. An offline reference library carries noise-ordinance figures and public guidance for twenty jurisdictions, with the standing reminder to verify current local rules yourself.
Everything stays on the device — no cloud, no account, no analytics, and no background listening. Quietmark is not a medical device, legal service, or professional sound meter.
About Quietmarks
Quietmark is a local-first noise documentation tool for apartment, neighborhood, construction, and late-night disturbance logs. Capture a short microphone meter sample, add notes and optional photos, review recurring patterns, and export clean PDF, CSV, or plain-text documentation packets.
QUIETMARK IS BUILT FOR ONE THING
People who need a dated, organized record of repeated noise events. Sound-meter apps show a number. Notes apps store text. Quietmark combines short approximate dB readings, written context, optional photo attachments, pattern summaries, and shareable exports in one private workflow.
CAPTURE THE EVENT
- Tap the big button. Quietmark opens the microphone for 3 / 5 / 10 / 30 seconds (your choice in Settings).
- It samples the audio meters at 10 Hz to estimate peak and average loudness.
- Quietmark is not a calibrated sound level meter. Readings are approximate and intended for personal documentation only.
- The microphone is used only for short captures you start yourself. Temporary audio is deleted after metering and nothing is uploaded.
LOG THE DETAILS
- A one-line headline + multi-line notes.
- Optional structured fields for source, room affected, duration, impact, and witnesses.
- Optional photo attachment from your photo library.
- Day-grouped reverse-chronological list with "Today" / "Yesterday" / weekday / date headers.

- 20 US and international jurisdictions: NYC, LA, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Denver, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Nashville, Atlanta, Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, WHO guidelines, EPA Levels Document, and a typical US residential composite.
- Each profile shows daytime/nighttime reference values, quiet hours, and citation text.
- The Sources screen includes public references such as WHO environmental noise guidelines, the U.S. EPA Levels Document, CDC/NIOSH measurement guidance, and selected public ordinance pages.
- Reference data may become outdated. Always verify current local rules before relying on a specific threshold.
PRIVACY-FIRST
- Everything stays on this device. No cloud sync. No accounts. No analytics.
- The microphone is only used during a deliberate capture; there is no background listening.
- The photo library is read only when you choose to attach an image - and again, that image stays local.
ABOUT THE DECIBEL NUMBERS
Apple does not expose a calibrated sound level meter through standard app APIs. Quietmark uses AVAudioRecorder's standard metering APIs and converts them to an approximate loudness reading. The number is useful for personal documentation and relative comparisons; it is not professional measurement data. Settings includes a full calibration note in plain English.
