As you type, Scriptsmith estimates how long your script takes to say at your chosen speaking pace (set in Settings). The ring and fit label update live — "On target," "Room to spare," or "Too long." If you're over, it tells you roughly how many words to trim.
Email the App Store product page with your iPhone model, iOS version, and a short description of what happened. There is no account system — all data is local to your device.
Common Questions
Does the app require an account or internet connection?
No. Scriptsmith is fully offline. No account, no login, no network access of any kind.
How do I export my script?
Open any script, tap the share icon (top-right), and choose a format: Labelled (beat headings included), Clean delivery text (words only, ideal for pasting into a teleprompter app), or Shot list. You can copy to clipboard or share via the iOS share sheet.
How does the Idea Vault work?
The Ideas tab is a fast-capture backlog. Add a working title, an optional one-liner concept, and an optional format tag. When you're ready to write, tap "Turn into script" — the title and format pre-fill the new script and you go straight to the editor.
What is the Prompt tab?
The Prompt tab inside any script is a full-screen auto-scrolling teleprompter. It shows your delivery text (no beat labels) and scrolls at your speaking pace. Tap once to play or pause; tap again when paused to show the controls, where you can adjust font size, scroll speed, and enable a mirror flip.
What is the Rehearse tab?
Rehearse walks through your script beat by beat with a countdown ring and haptic for each beat. It is a pacing coach, not a teleprompter — use it to feel the rhythm before filming. Use Prompt when you actually need the words on screen.
Where is my data stored?
All scripts, ideas, and preferences are stored locally on your device. No data is sent anywhere. Deleting the app removes all stored data.
How do I delete a script or idea?
Swipe left on any script or idea in the list and tap Delete.
Can I duplicate a script?
Yes. Swipe right on any script in the Scripts list and tap Duplicate.
Is there a subscription?
No. Scriptsmith has no recurring charges and no in-app purchases.
What is Production Pack?
New in version 1.4. Production Pack is an export mode that checks a script's delivery text, runtime fit, clarity score, hook status, hook variants, shot-list progress, and pipeline status. It creates a clean text handoff before filming.
What iOS version is required?
iOS 17 or later, on iPhone or iPad.
What is the "Repeated word" flag in the Clarity Score?
New in version 1.3. The Clarity engine now detects content words (verbs, nouns, adjectives) used three or more times in a short script. Repeating the same word that often sounds monotonous on camera — listeners notice the echo even when you, the writer, don't. Function words like "the," "and," and "you" are excluded. The flag shows the word, how many times it appears, and suggests varying it with a synonym or pronoun.
What are Hook Variants?
New in version 1.3. When your script has a hook beat, a "Hook variants" button appears in the Beat editor. Tap it to write up to 3 alternate opening lines alongside the active one. Tapping "Use this" on a variant swaps it non-destructively into the active hook — the previous text moves into the variant slot so you can always switch back. Writing multiple hooks and picking the strongest one is a professional scripting habit.
What is the pipeline stats card?
New in version 1.3. When you have two or more scripts, a summary card appears at the top of the Scripts list showing how many scripts you have in each pipeline stage (Idea / Scripted / Filming / Posted), a progress bar for how many you've posted, and the total estimated filming runtime of all scripted-but-not-yet-filmed scripts. Useful for batch-shoot planning.
