Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Hush Habit works without sign-in or account creation. There is no server and no subscription.
What is "Ride the wave"?
It is an in-the-moment urge tool. When a craving hits, open it from the Today tab or the Toolkit. It guides you through naming the urge, noticing it in your body, picturing it as a wave, and breathing it down with a paced inhale-4 / exhale-6 rhythm. When the wave passes, you rate how strong it was before and after and pick a replacement action — and the session is saved as a "urge ridden" win.
How long do cravings last?
Most cravings peak and then fade within about 20 to 30 minutes if you don't act on them. Urge surfing is the skill of riding that wave instead of fighting it. This is general education adapted from relapse-prevention practice, not medical advice.
Why a longer exhale?
A longer exhale (inhale 4, exhale 6) helps engage the body's "rest and settle" response through the vagus nerve, which can take the edge off an urge. You can breathe at whatever pace is comfortable.
What is a clean-day streak, and what happens if I slip?
A clean day is a day with no recorded slip. Hush Habit shows your current streak and your longest run, overall and per category. If you slip, swipe a record and mark it as a slip — your current streak resets, but your longest run is never erased. The app is built around reduction over perfection, so a slip is a data point, not a failure.
What is the HALT check?
HALT stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired — four states that make urges feel bigger. The quick check in the Ride the Wave tool reminds you to meet a real need before reacting to the habit.
How do I export my progress?
Open the Export tab. "Share weekly reflection (PDF)" creates a clean, paginated PDF with your streaks, urges ridden, slips, a 7-day trend, and your records. You can also share a plain-text summary or a CSV file for a spreadsheet or backup. Exports are generated on your device and only shared if you send them.
Where is my data stored?
On your device only, using local storage. Nothing is uploaded, and the app has no backend. If you delete the app, your records are removed with it, so export a backup first if you want to keep them.
Is Hush Habit medical or mental-health treatment?
No. It is a private self-reflection utility for habit reduction. It does not diagnose or treat anything. If you are struggling, please reach out to a qualified professional.
Does Hush Habit track me or show ads?
No. Hush Habit has no analytics, no advertising, no in-app purchases, and no tracking. It collects nothing.
