Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Hook Caption works without sign-in or account creation.
Does HookCaption upload videos?
No. Selected videos and caption text stay on your device.
Why does the app ask for Photos access?
The Photos picker is used only when you choose a video. Add-to-Photos access is requested only when saving an exported video.
What is Publish Pack?
Publish Pack keeps a post caption and hashtags beside the edit so you can copy that text when you are ready to post.
What is SRT export?
SRT (SubRip Text) is a widely supported subtitle file format. Hook Caption generates an SRT file from your timed caption cards and opening hook. You can upload this file to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, or import it into CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or any editor that accepts SRT files. This gives you the option to use platform-native captions instead of, or alongside, the burned-in version.
What is Timing Audit?
Timing Audit checks first-caption speed, hook length, average reading speed, overlapping captions, dead gaps, and caption coverage. It is local guidance for making captions easier to read before export.
Are my captions and hook saved between sessions?
Yes. Hook Caption saves your hook text, caption cards, caption style, platform, post caption, hashtags, saved hooks, and timing settings automatically as you work. Video clips are not saved; they remain in the Photos library.
How do saved hooks work?
Tap the heart icon next to "Opening Hook" to save the current hook text to your personal library. Tap a saved hook to load it. Tap the trash icon beside a saved hook to delete it. The app stores up to 30 saved hooks locally.
What is the Hook Bank?
The Hook Bank is a library of 30 ready-to-edit starter packs grouped into 8 categories: Outcome, Curiosity, Mistake, Contrarian, Identity, Business, Story, and Tutorial. Tapping a starter fills in the hook text, first caption, post caption, and hashtags so you can adjust from a working starting point instead of a blank page.
