Hivecard Support

Help and contact information for Hivecard 1.2 — the beekeeping inspection log for iPhone and iPad.

Getting Started

Tap the + button on the Hives tab to add your first hive. Enter a name, installation date, and queen birth year — Hivecard will derive the international mark color automatically. Then tap the hive and press "New Inspection" to begin logging.

Colony Strength

Inside a new inspection, expand the Colony Strength section to log frames of bees, frames of honey, and frames of pollen. A full Langstroth frame covered on both sides counts as 1.0; a half-covered frame counts as 0.5. Hivecard converts frames of bees to an estimated population and rates the colony as Weak, Moderate, Strong, or Very Strong.

Honey Harvest Log

Open a hive's detail screen and tap "Harvest Log" to record each extraction. Enter the date, weight in pounds or kilograms (set your preference in Settings → Units), number of supers extracted, and notes. The running total and harvest count appear at the top.

Treatment Tracker

Open a hive's detail screen and tap "Treatments" to log a mite treatment event. Select the product — Hivecard pre-fills the label duration (Apivar 42 days, Apiguard 28 days, Formic Pro 14 days, HopGuard 3 30 days, OAV/dribble single-session). When you retest 3–4 weeks after treatment ends, come back and add the post-treatment mite count. Hivecard will confirm whether it passed the threshold and flag the event if the retest is overdue.

CSV Export

Open the Report tab and tap "Export CSV." Choose Inspections, Harvests, or Treatments, then tap Generate. Share the resulting file with Numbers, Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet app via the standard iOS share sheet.

Common Questions

Does Hivecard require an account?
No account is required. All data lives on your device.

Where is my inspection data stored?
Hive records, inspection logs, harvest entries, treatment events, photos, and weather snapshots are stored locally in the app's Documents folder and UserDefaults. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I export my records?
Two options: (1) Report tab → Generate PDF for a single hive and year — inspector-ready PDF with mite-trend chart and full log. (2) Report tab → Export CSV for all inspections, harvests, or treatment events across all hives — opens in Numbers, Excel, or Sheets.

What changed in version 1.2?
Three new features: Honey Harvest Log (per-hive yield tracking with lb/kg support), Treatment Tracker (dated treatment events with label durations, expected end dates, days remaining, and post-treatment efficacy checks), and CSV Export (all inspections, harvests, or treatments as a spreadsheet-ready file). A new weight-unit setting (lb/kg) was also added to Settings.

What changed in version 1.1?
Colony Strength Tracker (frames of bees, honey, and pollen with population estimate), Disease & Pest Reference (10 offline entries with symptoms and actions), and a Seasonal Task Calendar (34 month-by-month tasks for the full beekeeping year). The PDF report now includes colony strength data.

Why is the weather fetch sometimes unavailable?
WeatherKit requires an internet connection and a valid GPS fix. If you are in an area with poor signal, or if you declined location permission, the inspection saves with empty weather fields — nothing is blocked. You can fetch weather later by editing the inspection.

How do I erase all my data?
Open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap "Erase all data." This removes every hive, inspection, harvest, treatment record, and photo from your device. The app stays installed.
