Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. The app works without sign-in or account creation.
Does the app need the web?
No. Note capture, scanning, organization, search, reminders, and export all work locally on your device.
Why does the app ask for camera access?
Camera access is only used when you choose Scan PDF so you can capture paper into searchable files.
How do scan filters work?
After scanning, the Scan Studio lets you reorder, rotate, or delete pages and apply Color, Grayscale, or Black & White cleanup before saving a searchable PDF. Everything is processed on your device.
Can I protect an exported PDF with a password?
Yes. When exporting a PDF you can set a password; the file then requires that password to open. Keep it somewhere safe, because it cannot be recovered.
How do reminders work?
A note can carry an optional due date that fires a local notification at the time you choose. No server or account is involved. The app asks for notification permission only when you first set a reminder.
Can I make my own notebooks?
Yes. You can create, rename, recolor, reorder, and delete notebooks, and move notes between them individually or in bulk.
What is Library Insights?
Library Insights is a statistics screen that shows your whole note library at a glance: total words, characters, estimated reading time (based on 238 words per minute), per-notebook item and word counts with proportional bars, your most-used tags, and your oldest and newest items. Open it from Help & Templates → Library Insights, or tap the Insights button on the Capture tab.
How does bulk export work?
In the Library, tap Select to enter multi-select mode, choose the items you want, then tap Export Files in the action bar at the bottom. You can export as Plain Text, Markdown, or JSON. Each item becomes its own file and the iOS share sheet delivers them together — you can AirDrop, save to Files, send by email, and more. PDF files are not included in bulk export; use the editor's Convert and Share action to export individual PDFs.
Where do I see reading time and character count?
Open any note in the editor and scroll to the Details section. It shows word count, character count, and an estimated reading time alongside the item type and original filename.
How does the Daily Writing Goal work?
Go to Help & Templates → Writing Goal to set a daily word target. The app counts all words in notes you create or update each calendar day. A flame streak shows how many consecutive days you have written. A 7-day bar chart shows your output per day — bars colored green when you met the goal, purple when you wrote but fell short, and faint when no writing happened. When your goal is enabled, a compact progress banner also appears on the Capture tab home screen. Everything is computed on-device from your existing notes with no account or subscription required.
Does numbered list formatting work in the Markdown preview?
Yes, as of version 1.4. Lines like 1. First item now render with their list number in the preview pane. Earlier versions showed them as plain text.
